A quick guide to the three dimensions
LOCALITY
Where is information coming from?
Internal draws on experience, assumptions, plans, and values. External brings in current observations, conditions, and other perspectives.
POLARITY
How is it being shaped?
Vertical narrows, prioritizes, and brings closure. Horizontal expands alternatives, relationships, and context.
LOOPS / REGULATORY DIRECTION
What is guiding the response?
For you: Cortical / thinking and Subcortical / feeling. For the department: Top-down goals and direction, with Bottom-up signals from operations.
A useful emphasis depends on the situation. “Both in play” does not by itself establish integration or fit.
Lead with clarity.
Stay open to what changes.
